Kooky Canuck - Burgers, Sandwiches and More - #RestaurantReview

Any chance I get, I love to visit Memphis, Tn.  Memphis has tons of events, activities and a wide of variety to choose from.  Memphis is well known for their BBQ, Blues and Jazz music as well as the home of the late Elvis Presley.  I never tire of Memphis.  They have some of the greatest food places around and I love just strolling down the infamous Beale Street, but we'll save the latter for another time.

While in Memphis this past weekend, I stopped by Kooky Canuck.  If you've never visited Kooky Canuck, then you need to check them out.  Kooky Canuck was featured on Man vs. Food in 2008, when it was previously known as The Bigfoot Lodge.  Adam Richman, from Man vs. Food, attempted (and failed) the Kookamonga Challenge (previously the Bigfoot Challenge), which required him to eat a 10lb burger in under an hour.

First of all, I would instantly fail at this challenge, so no, I did not take on that challenge.  I can barely finish a burger before getting stuffed to the point I can no longer eat anymore!  But what I did order, was the Fish N Chips.  I was also accompanied by my husband and son, who ordered the 6 oz. Great Maple Sirloin and Fish N Chips.  Shawn had mentioned that the Fish N Chips were not your ordinary Captain D's battered fish.  These are made with a New England style batter, where the fish is two generous fillets of cod hand dipped in an English beer batter.

While we were waiting on our food, I got to meet Shawn Danko, the owner of Kooky Canuck, as well as the General Manager, Terry Trim.  Shawn had asked if I ordered any appetizers (which I hadn't) and he said he was bringing us some BBQ Pork Egg Rolls, that I had to try.  He was right about I had to try these, because these were the best egg rolls ever! The wantons were fried to a perfect crisp and were filled with a sweet bbq pork filling that I couldn't get enough of! These were the bomb!  I will definitely be trying these again!

AND THE LAST ONE!

Ok, Shawn...I've got to know how you make these!  But, let's not forget the side items.  I ordered the Cheesy Corn.  I didn't know really what to expect...I thought maybe it was corn on the cob, with a cheesy sauce...but this was even better!  Whole Kernel (or maybe cream style corn) meshed with a LOT of cheese sauce.  This was totally something different and something I've never had, nor heard of, but was sure glad I tried it.  YUMMO!

My son, who just normally just starts eating and who never comments or compliments (verbally, anyway) his food, instantly commented about his 6 oz. Great Maple Sirloin.  He repeatedly kept saying how good his steak was and like a good mother that I am, I had to try it (hey!  I'm not going to miss something my son says taste good!)  He was right on the spot...this Great Maple Sirloin was awesome!  It had a slight sweetness from the Maple Syrup flavoring and the steak was really tender.  After a couple of bites of it, my son said, "Ok, that's enough!"

Kooky Canuck has tons of burgers and sandwiches to choose from with a wide variety of add ons.  They also serve soups and salads, entrees, desserts and great tasting appetizers that you can't pass up (I'm coming back for more of those BBQ Pork Egg Rolls!)

I love the whole atmosphere and decor of Kooky Canuck.  I can tell it's a favorite among the local (and tourists), as this place was packed by the time I got ready to leave.  The food was served hot and the service was excellent. Dana, our waitress, was always nearby if we needed anything and was a very pleasant person to talk with.  I would definitely recommend visiting Kooky Canuck if you've never ate here before...and DON'T FORGET TO TRY THE BBQ PORK EGG ROLLS!
